Since she was 17, Aurélie Dumand has been making soaps.

It was a hobby but, at 42, that passion turned into a vocation.

In 2019, she created Les Bulles d'Oré, an artisanal and local soap factory located in Chambon (Charente-Maritime).

In this village of Aunis, between La Rochelle and Surgères, she makes soaps, washing powder, powdered toothpaste… which are then sold in the markets and shops in the area.

“I work with healthy, mainly local products when possible.

I try to have the least possible impact on the environment by limiting packaging, ”explains the business manager.

And since in Charente-Maritime the oyster is a local product, Aurélie Dumand had the idea of incorporating it into a recipe.

“I walk a lot on the coast and wanted a soap reminiscent of this atmosphere of maritime pines, sea water and sand, for the exfoliating side.

But I didn't want to take sand from nature.

It was CyclaB, an innovation laboratory for the circular economy, which put me on the trail of the oyster, ”says the artisan.

Oyster farmers are enthusiastic

The soap maker therefore collects the oyster shells from Ovive, a shellfish waste recycling company based in Périgny, in the La Rochelle agglomeration.

For this range called Bulles Nacrée, launched in September, the mother-of-pearl of oyster shells is combined with sunflower, olive, coconut and camelina oils, shea butter and pine essential oil. maritime.

Everything comes from organic farming, cold saponified - like all of Aurélie Dumand's productions - and carefully decorated.

"It's too beautiful, I don't know if I'm going to wash myself with it or keep it as a decoration", laughs a customer in the Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis market.

“This soap was very well received by my customers but especially by the oyster farmers who are enthusiastic.

Those of Charente-Maritime Oysters offer them with their logo, ”says the designer.

As it is composed of essential oil, this soap with exfoliating properties is not recommended for babies or for pregnant women.

For these more fragile skin, Aurélie Dumand has other more suitable ranges to offer.

It also organizes numerous introductory workshops in cosmetics and soap making.
