Niklas Bachmann wanted to travel Europe by bike and at the same time do something good for the environment.

Now the Glonner has returned home.

Glonn - Niklas Bachmann was on the road across Europe in eight different countries for 177 days - by bike.

The 19-year-old covered more than 7,200 kilometers - that's roughly the coastline of Spain - and only had six flat tires.

Now the Glonner has returned home.

When he last talked to Bachmann in August, he was still in the south of Spain: “But practically from that point on, the journey only took on intensity,” he recalls.

He experienced heat waves at 49 degrees: "You felt like you were in the sauna, I've never experienced that." He was also once in the Spanish desert on the verge of dying of thirst or had to visit a crazy hermit in the forest near Rome stay overnight, who armored himself against aliens with the machete.

Through Europe by bike: Texaner spontaneously joins Bachmann's journey

But there were also nice moments: for example a Texan he met in a hostel near Venice.

He spontaneously bought a bike and cycled with him to Slovenia for four days.

Bachmann did that very well: "In the beginning I really enjoyed traveling alone, but at some point came the point where I thought it would be nice to travel with someone."

He finally arrived back in Glonn last Sunday afternoon.

His family and friends had organized a surprise party for him and already greeted him with cheers on the street.

The bike tour gives Bachmann plenty of time to think and learn about yourself

On his trip he had a lot of time to think and learned a lot about himself: "Cycling has an incredible symbolism for life," he stated.

If he had a clear goal in mind, he kicked all the more enthusiastically; if his travel plans were unclear, he too was unmotivated.

"I can apply that to life for myself," he remarked.

He was also able to think extensively about his choice of studies.

Now he knows: it should be mechanical engineering.

But Bachmann not only advanced the journey mentally, the fundraising campaign he started at the time was also extremely successful: He collected over 3,000 euros for the OroVerde Tropical Forest Foundation - and thus for over 3,000 trees planted.

Niklas Bachmann is finally back home - and is already planning the next bike tours

And the bike tour should not have been the last.

The Glonner wants to cycle through North and South America at some point, but Eastern countries like Iran have also been recommended to him.

But now he is happy to be able to take a shower at home again: “And it felt good to sleep in your own four walls again after such a long time.” It’s best at home after all.
