French people who love fish, unlike the British
We consume 35 kilos per year and per person, which is one and a half times more than the European average (27 kilos).
And the older we get, the more fish we eat.
The typical consumer is over 65, lives as a couple and lives ... by the sea. It is in fact on the Atlantic coast that we eat the most fish.
France is the fifth European country consuming the most fish, just behind Finland (36 kg), Spain (42 kg), Lithuania (43 kg) and Portugal (57 kg).
These 5 countries alone represent ⅓ of European Union consumption (13 million tonnes in live weight equivalent).
If the British are big fishermen, conversely they eat little fish (20.5 kilos).
