In Oléron (Charente-Maritime)
At sea, the wind can also bring big benefits.
In theory, at least: the tax on maritime wind turbines created in 2005 has never yet been applied for lack of… installations in France.
In Charente-Maritime, however, this windfall arouses a certain interest, tinged with unspoken words and warnings.
The project for a wind farm in the Oléron Sea, defended by the State, is currently the subject of a “major public debate”.

Ultimately, up to 2000 megawatts (MW) of electricity could potentially be generated in the heart of a Natura 2000 zone and a marine natural park, in an area between 10 and 30 kilometers from the coast.
At 18,605 euros per MW installed, according to the law in force, this Oléron park could thus generate an annual jackpot of ... 37.21 million euros, paid by the operator.
Specific distribution
The tax on maritime wind turbines is allocated at 50% to coastal municipalities

, according to a specific distribution key.
