At an accelerated pace, the rehabilitation and restoration work of the Al-Ahmadiya market in old Aleppo is continuing, one of the nine markets of the straight street extending from Bab Antakya until the end of the Zarb market overlooking the Aleppo Citadel.

SANA’s camera monitored the restoration and rehabilitation work in the market, which includes 19 shops, which comes in implementation of the agreement signed between the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, Aleppo Governorate, the City Council, the Aga Khan Foundation for Culture and the Syrian Trust for Development. Rehabilitation of domes that were damaged as a result of the attacks of terrorist organizations, restoration of stone facades and immersion ceilings, in addition to installing wooden doors according to the urban style of the markets.

Engineer Al-Shihabi pointed out that in parallel, work is being done to rehabilitate the infrastructure of the electrical network, as the air network has been replaced by a ground feeding network that is distributed to shops.

Tariq Siraj, the administrative officer of the Aga Khan Foundation for Cultural Services, said in a statement to SANA that the rehabilitation work began two months ago and will continue until the first half of next year, and includes the implementation of plans and the restoration of storefronts and stone arches, pointing out that the restoration of the Ahmadiyya market is one of the projects implemented by the Aga Khan Foundation. In cooperation with the concerned authorities and the Syrian Trust for Development, with the aim of reviving the straight path.

On the role of the Syrian Trust for Development, Ahmed Kubba, supervisor of economic projects in the secretariat, spoke about the importance of restoring the old markets of Aleppo within a development, societal and legal framework, indicating that the shops were handed over to their owners and all documents and data necessary for the restoration process were produced, in addition to holding meetings with merchants to elect a committee representing the shop owners in The market and that once the external and internal restoration operations are completed, shop owners are helped to obtain soft loans to restore the economic movement of the market.
