After around 70 years of existence, the Hohenpeißenberg tourist office is about to end.

The outgoing board of directors wants to give the association one last chance - and look for successors in public.

Hohenpeißenberg

- Again and again, Mayor Thomas Dorsch was able to persuade the board of the Hohenpeißenberger Verkehrsverein to add another term of office. But now even the best persuasive skills are no longer enough: At the most recent annual general meeting, all board members spoke out in favor of dissolving the association. A continuation would only be possible with a new board of directors. "We are looking for a rescue team that will lead the association into the future," said Dorsch at a press conference in the Hohenpeissenberg town hall.

Eva Rößle has been a member of the tourist office for 35 years.

In 2001 she took over the office of first chairperson - and now she wants to draw the line.

“Nobody is coming,” she said resignedly.

At the annual general meeting in August, apart from the board members, only one other person appeared.

"That is frustrating," emphasized Ursula Oberstolz, the second chairwoman.

The zeitgeist as the reason for the dwindling interest

It is not as if the association, which has been committed to the maintenance and promotion of tourism in the area for decades, is thinly staffed: there are currently 49 members, including 13 host houses.

"We have already asked everyone, but no one is ready to take over the board," said Roessle contrite.

The reason for this development?

The board members agree: “The spirit of the times”.

Cashier Christian Prokosch knows: “Nobody calls the tourist office anymore and asks for a room.” In the meantime, everything is done via online portals such as “booking.com”, where everyone can book an overnight stay with just a few clicks.

“Just a little pile” is left

This trend apparently leads the members to distance themselves from the club's activities - or at least to take part in meetings.

“The pile has gotten smaller and smaller.

It's just a little pile now, ”said assessor Gisela Lang in a nutshell.

In fact, a lot has happened in the tourism industry since the municipality in Pfaffenwinkel merged to form a tourist association almost 70 years ago.

At that time the guests - especially families - came to Hohenpeißenberg to take a few days of vacation, the mayor knows.

That has decreased significantly.

"Now day-trippers are coming here."

There is still a spark of hope - if a successor can be found

And these are now mainly looked after by the Pfaffenwinkel tourism association. But the tourist office has also been able to set up a wide range of offers for tourists and locals in recent decades. The guided tours of the meteorological observatory organized by the association are particularly popular. The holiday program and the “Stiefelweiher” bathing lake, which Eva Rößle and her team were instrumental in promoting, are just as well received.

Mayor Dorsch thinks it is more than a shame if the tourist office is actually dissolved.

“Of course I am sorry for the municipal authorities.

It has always been a constructive and good collaboration, ”he thanked the board of directors.

But there is still a spark of hope: if a total of six new members can be found to hold the offices of first and second chairman, treasurer, secretary, assessor and auditor, things can continue.

At the next meeting in January, the decision will be made: will it continue to exist or will it be dissolved?

“At least nobody can say that they haven't tried everything,” says Dorsch.
