Today, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, discussed with the Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the sisterly Republic of Iraq, Nizar Al-Khairallah and his accompanying delegation, the relations between the two countries and ways to develop them in all fields.
Minister Miqdad stressed the depth of brotherly relations between the two countries and Syria's keenness to develop bilateral relations with brotherly Iraq in all fields.
Minister Miqdad reviewed the common challenges and threats facing the two countries, foremost of which is terrorism, and the need to continue close cooperation between Syria and Iraq to end its danger and expose the countries supporting it and the difficult economic situation, stressing the importance of strengthening coordination between the two countries to confront these challenges.
Minister Miqdad explained the catastrophic humanitarian effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries on Syria and other countries, considering them illegal and threatening the lives of citizens and the stability and security of countries.
For his part, Al-Khairallah pointed to the existence of a new atmosphere in the region, expressing optimism that the coming period will witness greater openness.
Al-Khairallah stressed the importance of developing relations between the two sides, especially in the economic field, for the good of the two brotherly countries and peoples, and the importance of activating the work of the joint committees.
The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Othman Saab, Director of the Arab Affairs Department, and other diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.. From the Iraqi side, Osama Mahdi Ghanem, head of the Arab Affairs Department.
