For more than 20 years, the people of Haar started the new year together - with the big fireworks at the sports park.

Last year it was due to corona.

Also this year, according to a press release, the town hall decided to cancel the fireworks.

Corona is the decisive point, but not the only argument.

"Time to rethink old habits"

“Sometimes it is time to rethink old habits,” writes the town hall. Fireworks have been a topic of public discussion, especially in recent years: harmful to the environment, too loud for the animal world. The feeling of togetherness that arose year after year at the Haarers on New Year's Eve was anything but “out of date”. On the contrary. And that's why Haar is now taking a year off to rethink everything. An alternative to fireworks would be a laser show. It is important to find out where this is possible, what effort is required and whether it can be financed.

Instead of spending money on firecrackers and rockets, the Haarers can again donate to people in need this year.

The community foundation, in cooperation with the social welfare office, takes care of precisely these people and provides quick, unbureaucratic help if it is particularly urgent.
