The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reported this Wednesday that the alpha, gamma, beta and delta variants of covid-19 circulate in Nicaragua, according to information sent by the country's Ministry of Health.
"We have received the information requested from the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health and that highlights the identification of the four variants of our concern. So, Nicaragua is answering our questions. The Nicaraguan Ministry of Health has not informed in its weekly reports on these variants or on the risks of contracting them.
For its part, the independent Covid-19 Citizen Observatory said this Wednesday in a press release that the presence of variants of concern forces a change in prevention strategy, implementing control measures and proven efficacy to reduce transmission.

Covid-19 cases in Nicaragua
The Ministry of Health reported that, as of November 16, the country accumulates 211 deaths from covid-19, while confirmed infections amount to 17,043 cases.
In contrast, as of November 3, the Covid-19 Citizen Observatory added 31,140 suspected cases of the disease and 5,928 deaths from pneumonia or coronavirus.
Regarding the vaccination figures, as of November 15, the vice president and government spokesperson reported that 79.02% of those over 30 years of age were vaccinated, while 56.42% of the total population aged two years and over are vaccinated.
