Polish security forces arrested around a hundred migrants on the border with Belarus on Thursday night.

The Ministry of Defense in Warsaw announced that the refugees had tried to cross the border into Poland.

"Belarusians urged migrants to throw stones at Polish soldiers to distract them," the ministry said.

Belarusian uniformed men first explored the situation and probably damaged the border fortifications, the ministry said on Twitter.

Despite the cold, hundreds of migrants spent the night in Belarus on the border with Poland in the open air.

It was the eleventh night in a row.

They warmed themselves at fire pits, as a reporter from the dpa news agency reported on site.

Many people there complained of breathing difficulties due to smoke from fires covering the border area.

An estimated 900 people are still on the green belt.

Because of the threat of rain, the Belarusian authorities want to prepare further emergency shelters.

Not far from the border, a logistics hall was opened as a sleeping warehouse on Monday.

There, the upper floor is to be cleaned so that more people can be accommodated.

The state agency Belta reported that last night was quiet in the hall.

The military are distributing hot tea there.

Help for those stranded in Belarus

Humanitarian aid for stranded migrants in Belarus is being expanded.

A goulash cannon was set up at the sleeping camp so that people could be provided with hot meals and drinks.

So far, migrants have sometimes missed out on the distribution of food rations.

Thousands of migrants have been waiting for days on the Belarusian-Polish border.

Europe accuses the Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko of bringing refugees from crisis regions to the EU's external border in an organized manner in order to put pressure on them.

It is believed that he wants to avenge himself for sanctions.

Chancellor Angela Merkel called Lukashenko again on Wednesday.

According to both sides, the humanitarian situation of the migrants was also at stake.

This Thursday, a special flight was supposed to bring the first Iraqi migrants back to their homeland.
