The Poverty Alleviation Committee announced earlier the poverty situation in 2020. The number of poor people in Hong Kong last year was 1.653 million affected by the epidemic. About one out of four people was poor.

Singles who are currently on the poverty line have a monthly income of only about 4,400 yuan. If calculated according to the poverty-stricken household expenditure model estimated by the Poverty Alleviation Committee, after deducting other necessary expenses, they can barely leave 1,025 yuan for food, and the daily average is only 34 yuan. Three meals.

Affected by the epidemic, the poverty line for one-person households will be less than 4400 yuan in 2020, two-person households will be less than 9,500 yuan, and four-person households will be less than 20,800 yuan, all of which are slightly lower than in 2019.

However, due to the impact on Hong Kong’s economy and employment last year, the number of poor people increased by 162,000 compared with the previous year to 1.653 million, and poverty was as high as 23.6%.

The lives of poor families are struggling. In 2015, the Poverty Alleviation Committee studied the expenditure patterns of the poor and found that the average monthly expenditure of poor households was 5,500 yuan, of which nearly 40% was used for housing and about 30% was used for food; the number of families is different, and the expenditure patterns are different. It will also be different. For example, more than half of the expenses for one-person households are housing expenses, which is much higher than that of households with more people.

However, the Commission for Poverty Alleviation has not yet published a new study. Therefore, the reporter used the latest poverty line income indicators for the expenditure ratios of various households in the previous study, assuming that all the monthly income of poor households is used to cope with their lives, and calculate 2020 Expenses of poor families in the year.

Among them, the one-person household at the poverty line last year, if all the income of 4,400 yuan was used to pay for living needs, it would spend an average of about 2,380 yuan on housing each month, and also spent about 200 yuan on medical care and about 90 yuan for transportation. Entertainment and clothing expenses are about 46 yuan each month, and after deducting other expenses, only 1,025 yuan is left for food, and only 34 yuan a day to cover three meals.

As for the two-person and three-person families, the average daily per capita spending is 45 yuan and 58 yuan for food (Note: different families have different spending habits, the above is only an estimate).

The study pointed out that housing is the largest expenditure for families with one to three persons. When the number of family members is four or more, the proportion of housing expenditure drops to the second place, which is replaced by food expenses.

The study explained that multiple people living together can share family resources, and the proportion of poor households with multiple people living in public housing is relatively high.
