Sonthofen - The building and environmental committee of the Sonthof city council dealt again with the planning of the traffic systems in the vicinity of the new museum.
The construction work for the new city museum is making good progress;
meanwhile the interior work is already underway.
Now the building and environmental committee of the Sonthof city council dealt again with the planning of the traffic systems in the area around the new museum.
"The aim is to create a dignified environment," said Franz Friedberger, head of the city's building management department.
And Andreas Kicherer from the planning office OK Landschaft describes the goal in a very similar way:
Accessibility should be taken into account
"Create a generous space that better accentuates the building." So far, the surroundings of the future city museum have not shown themselves to be very attractive: narrow paths, dreary perspectives, many patches, in short: "Many conditions that the museum does not meet." Aspects of future accessibility should be taken up consciously.
The bottom line is that Kicherer sees the plans, which primarily affect Kirchstrasse, as a “correction of the past 50 years”, where space has generally been given to car traffic.
Now it is important to emphasize the needs of pedestrians and cyclists, to slow down through traffic with creative means, to translate conflicts between road users into a coexistence.
Space for events
In the entrance area of the city museum, the planning provides for sufficient space for visitors to move around and relax.
The planning also allows space for the museum's outdoor events.
In order to provide an appropriate environment, the outdoor area should not end at the edge of the sidewalk, but should also include parts of the street.
The planning office relies on paving in various designs, which delimit without creating obstacles and sharp transitions.
Kicherer did not accept the objection from City Councilor Florian Buhl (CSU), whether too much area was sealed.
Even if the impression might be deceptive, more area than before will not be sealed.
No cobblestones
And the choice of material will not be the familiar rough cobblestones, Kicherer dispelled the concerns of Katharina Martin (CSU).
"Nobody does that anymore," says Kicherer.
Rather, they will install finer material that allows significantly smaller joints and forms a flat, smooth surface.
The cost of redesigning the traffic facilities will amount to around 336,000 euros, including almost 100,000 euros for civil engineering work.
To do this, you create “a great, future-oriented outdoor facility”, says Christoph Stöberl, head of the urban development / urban planning department.
In the unanimous decision of the committee, the administration is instructed to initiate further steps so that the redesign of the traffic facilities can take place together with the outdoor facilities in the coming spring
