The pressure on parents and employees of daycare centers and schools in this corona crisis is enormous.

And the current figures are not very encouraging.

Munich - What about the children in the Corona crisis?

A look at the last four weeks from the perspective of the numbers: The incidence among the under-four-year-olds rose from less than 60 to more than 180. Among the under-14-year-olds from around 150 to almost 700. The trend in both groups, according to Robert -Koch-Institut (RKI): steeply upwards.

Where are they infected?

The RKI management report of November 11 provides information.

Every week, the authority has been reporting about 70 outbreaks of day care centers nationwide since September.

The proportion of infections from under-five-year-olds was around 63 percent in August - since then, there has been a decline.

However, the proportion of over 15-year-olds in day-care outbreaks has been increasing again since then.

Current RKI numbers: Corona outbreaks in schools in Germany

The number of school breakouts reported, on the other hand, rose "very significantly" again from the beginning of August to the beginning of October 2021.

The RKI attributes the decline observed since mid-October to the autumn holidays in Germany.

693 school breakouts were reported for calendar weeks 41 to 44.

Since the beginning of August, corona cases between the ages of six and ten and eleven to 14 have been reported in school breakouts, with the proportion of six to ten year olds increasing significantly since October.

The breakdown by age group at schools from the end of October:

  • 6-10 years: 45 percent

  • 11-14 years: 33 percent

  • 15-20 years: 11 percent

  • 21 years and older: 11 percent

Regarding the lower proportion of older schoolchildren (the last two groups), it can be said: So far, Stiko has only recommended the corona vaccination for children older than twelve years.

In October, an average of five children were affected per outbreak, this applied to daycare centers and schools.

Occasionally, however, there were ten or more people affected per outbreak.

Corona incidence at daycare centers and schools: Delta mutation and more tests

What are the reasons for this trend in schools?

The RKI predicts the delta mutation, which is more infectious than the original pathogen.

In addition, significantly more tests are carried out, which means that asymptomatic infections can also be detected at an early stage.

The number of tests during the period increased from around 17,000 to around 27,000 in the under-four-year-olds, and from 30,000 to around 88,000 in the under-14-year-olds.

In contrast to the school outbreaks, the number of transmitted daycare outbreaks has so far remained well below the level of the second and third wave of the pandemic, according to the RKI.

Teachers' Association warns of "loss of control" - money for air filters not called

In view of the fatal incidence trend across Germany, the German Teachers' Association warned a good week ago that there was a risk of "a loss of control and thus many school closings again," said its President Heinz-Peter Meidinger of the

.

In addition, the municipalities would have to ensure that the money for air filters, for example, is finally released, said Meidinger.

“It is also important to reduce contacts in private.

A lot of persuasion still needs to be done, ”said Meidinger.
