The deadline has expired, and the government does not yet have a new candidate to head the Jewish Agency
Following the resignation of Minister Elazar Stern from the race, the agency gave the prime minister and foreign minister a month's extension to submit a new candidate on their behalf.
Meanwhile, Lapid and Bennett have not been able to find an agreed-upon candidate.
However, the selection committee will convene only at the end of the month and most likely the government will be able to submit a new candidate by then

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Deputy Prime Minister Yair Lapid did not submit a new candidate on their behalf for the presidency of the Jewish Agency, even though the deadline for presenting new candidates expired tonight (Thursday) at midnight.
Following the resignation of Minister Elazar Stern last month from the race for the post of chairman of the agency, the selection committee accepted Lapid's request to postpone the election process and approved him to submit a new candidate on behalf of the government by the 17th. The Zionist Organization and representatives of Diaspora Jewry are due to convene only at the end of the month, and if the government submits a new candidate by then - it will probably be put to a vote.
The agency's election was scheduled to take place last month, and the original candidate for Lapid and the government was Minister Stern, who withdrew his candidacy two days before the election, following the storm surrounding his remarks about shredding complaints of sexual harassment as head of the ACA. Before the selection committee and submitted their candidacies for the position are still waiting for the election, including former Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, former Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren, chairwoman of the Jewish People Museum "We" Irina Nevzlin, who is the wife of MK Yuli Edelstein, And former Diaspora Minister Omar Yankelevich, who receives vigorous support and backing from Blue and White Chairman Bnei Gantz.

In addition, former Knesset members Uzi Dayan and Michal Kotler-Wensch, Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem Fleur Hassan-Nahum and Chairman of the House of Representatives Prof. Yaffa Zilberschutz also submitted their candidacies.
According to the agency's rules, a candidate must win a sweeping majority of nine out of ten votes of committee members to accept the position;
According to factors involved in the selection process, none of the existing candidates enjoys a sweeping consensus.
Following Stern's resignation, some of the candidates approached the offices of Prime Minister Bennett and Lapid, requesting their support for the position, but Lapid refused them all and was looking for another candidate last month.
One of the options examined is the presentation of Diaspora Minister Nachman Shai to the post, with the aim of clearing a portfolio in the government to solve the coalition problem created with Minister Eli Avidar following Stern's retirement.
Last July, Lapid agreed with Avidar on his appointment as minister without portfolio, and he was to be appointed to the Ministry of Intelligence in place of Stern, who was to be elected head of the agency.
However, according to sources in the coalition, the contacts with Shai and the chairman of the Labor Party did not mature into agreements, among other things because at work they demanded compensation in exchange for relinquishing the position of minister.
