Which guidelines should traffic planning in the city follow in the future?

The traffic development plan answers this question.

After long discussions and a lot of detailed work, this has finally come into force.

Fürstenfeldbruck

- With the numerous topics on climate protection on the agenda of the Committee for the Environment, Transport and Civil Engineering, the resolution on the Transport Development Plan (VEP) was almost forgotten.

The creation of the VEP was one of the central issues of urban policy in recent years.

Christian Stangl (Greens) spoke of a great success: "It is a work that extends far into the future."

For the next 15 years, the VEP is to serve as a basic strategic concept for traffic planning in the district town.

"The challenge now is to get such an overarching concept into a manageable form," said City Planning Officer Johannes Dachsel.

In other words: How the VEP guidelines are actually applied in each individual project will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Glad for the guidelines

Nonetheless, the committee members were able to agree with Stangl when he said: “In recent years we would have often been happy about such guidelines.” Too often one would have lost oneself in lengthy, detailed discussions.

There was also a sense of relief in the other requests to speak that these times are now behind the committee members.

"We took a lot of time, there is a lot of work involved," said Mirko Pötzsch (SPD).

“It feels like we've been on it for too long anyway,” said Christian Götz (BBV).

Only Thomas Brückner (Greens) would have liked to clarify a number of detailed questions, but could not find a majority for his concern.

Measures in the short term

The implementation of the VEP will begin immediately.

In a first step, twelve measures that can be implemented at short notice will be tackled.

One of them is the restructuring of the city center.

In addition to traffic-calmed business areas in the city center and the reorganization of parking space management, the introduction of temporary loading zones and the creation of additional bicycle parking facilities are on the agenda.

Long-term goals for the city center are the redesign of the Viehmarktplatz, including the underground car park, and the introduction of residents' parking zones.

Other focal points of action are, for example, the air base area - except for the implementation of an urban planning competition, nothing else is currently possible here - or the train stations.

Additional bicycle parking facilities are to be built on these.

Protection strips for cyclists

Improving the main transport network includes measures such as the redesign of the Fürstenfelder Strasse / Oskar-von-Miller-Strasse and the Am Sulzbogen / Heimstättenstrasse area.

In addition, if possible, protective strips for cyclists in the urban area should be widened or newly created as required.

In the area of mobility offers and concepts, two short-term measures are pending: On the one hand, a change and, if necessary, merging of the parking regulations for cars and bicycles.

On the other hand, the first mobility stations that have been planned for a long time are to be built in the urban area in the coming year.

The committee voted unanimously both for the basic implementation of the VEP and for the first measures from it.

From now on, their progress will be presented to the committee every year.

In addition, other focal points can also be suggested.
