Indoor swimming pool, school, day-care center: Moosburg is facing major new construction projects - in a difficult financial situation.

The mayor expects “exciting” budget meetings.

Moosburg

- The Moosburg City Council spent two very intense days in the Seeon Abbey. The committee has withdrawn for a retreat in Chiemgau and agreed on the basic path in several subject areas. "I am very satisfied with the results," says Mayor Josef Dollinger now. You not only had a very good climate, but also good food to discuss many important things for two days.

The city council meeting was held big, because the important department heads of the city administration were also there.

They answered various questions from the city councils and submitted status reports on ongoing processes.

“Our household consultations, which are about to begin, will be exciting,” says Josef Dollinger now in view of major projects such as the construction of the indoor swimming pool, the modernization of the city center or the need to build another elementary school or new day-care center.

"We have a very tight financial corset here."

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

In the 2022 administrative budget, the city council has to be prepared for significantly higher wage costs in its own administration.

Dollinger makes it clear that when the indoor swimming pool and the children's home in the Amperauen have started operating, new staff will have to be added to the list.

With a view to the corona pandemic that will occupy households in 2020 and 2021, Dollinger says that Moosburg has come through this difficult time quite well so far.

In 2020, the city received a total of 3.8 million euros from the federal and state governments to offset the tax shortfalls in the initial phase of the pandemic.

The average of tax revenues from 2017 and 2019 was calculated.

City hall chief relies on reserves

This year the city's tax revenues are about a million below the average.

As compensation, the municipality will then receive 500,000 euros from the Free State of Bavaria, which, as in 2020, will cover half of the loss.

It is still open whether the federal government will also support the municipalities.

The budget result for this year will not be that bad.

With a reserve of over 20 million euros, Moosburg is currently well positioned.

But these savings were made for difficult times and are now needed, according to Dollinger.

He expects new borrowing and massive withdrawals from reserves in the coming years.

The major investment program over the next few years with a number of projects for education and childcare that cannot be postponed is a huge challenge for the city council.
