Schwerin - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) has sent an urgent vaccination appeal to people in the country who have not yet been vaccinated against the corona virus.

The capacities for Covid sufferers in the country's clinics are already almost 70 percent exhausted, said Schwesig on Thursday evening after a conference of the state premiers with the executive chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

Federal and state governments for financial aid for postponing surgery

At their conference in Lindau, the federal and state health ministers spoke out in favor of financial compensation payments to hospitals that have to postpone planned interventions because of the treatment of corona patients.

This regulation should apply retrospectively to November 1st, said Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Social Affairs Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) on Friday at a press conference after the health ministerial conference in Lindau on Lake Constance.

SPD parliamentary group leader Keller for 2G also in Brandenburg

The SPD parliamentary group leader in the Brandenburg state parliament, Daniel Keller, wants to adopt the more stringent 2G regulation of Saxony for Brandenburg in view of the increasing corona numbers.

Except in shops or in local transport, unvaccinated citizens without a well-known Covid disease would then have to accept massive restrictions in public - negative tests would no longer be sufficient.

“We don't have much leeway anymore,” warned Schwesig. Most of the unvaccinated people over the age of 60 are in hospitals. Getting vaccinated is important on the one hand in order not to become seriously ill yourself. It is also important out of consideration for people who have been vaccinated. “Because it cannot be that now people who are vaccinated and actually need an operation, for example on the hip, that their operation will be postponed because others have not had themselves vaccinated and now have to be treated in hospitals for Covid. “Schwesig also called on people in the country to be tested free of charge once a week.

The head of government also said that after the Prime Minister's Conference on Thursday, she asked the district administrators and mayors in MV to completely restart the vaccination structures with the support of the Bundeswehr. She also asked the vaccinators in the country to help with vaccinations and boosters. The boosters should proceed gradually: First, the over 60-year-olds and risk patients are on it, and then the younger ones. Everyone over the age of 18 is entitled to a booster vaccination.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania wants to approve the new Federal Infection Protection Act, which the Bundestag decided on Thursday, in the Bundesrat this Friday, as Schwesig announced. The new law takes into account the situation that many people are vaccinated and it is not justifiable to close areas for them. At the same time, the law offers the possibility of further protective measures, up to and including contact restrictions in the worst case.

According to the new law, if a hospitalization rate of 3 is exceeded, the federal states should introduce nationwide access rules only for vaccinated and convalescent people (2G), for example to events and catering.

If a value of 6 is exceeded, the federal states should also prescribe test certificates or other measures in certain facilities for vaccinated and convalescent people (2G plus).

At the latest when the threshold of 9 is exceeded, the federal states should then make use of further restrictions.

This aims at a clause resolved by the Bundestag: According to a corresponding state parliament resolution, the states should also be able to impose tougher measures such as contact restrictions or restrictions and bans on events.

With the exception of the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald, the hospitalization rate on Thursday was above 3 in all districts and independent cities in the northeast. The national average was 6.5.

In MV, two thirds of the population have been fully vaccinated so far.

5.2 percent have received a booster vaccination so far.

That is considered too little to protect the clinics in the fourth wave from overload.
