North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) has repeated his criticism of the plans of the traffic light groups to let the pandemic emergency expire.

In view of the dramatic situation with corona infections, this is a clear mistake, he said on Thursday shortly before the Bundestag debate on the subject in the ZDF “Morgenmagazin”.

"As of yesterday, 65,000 people are infected - without us being able to change it today, many hundreds of people are dying."

Berlin / Düsseldorf - Extending the epidemic situation would be the best, "that would be the most legally secure," said Wüst.

The planned coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP wants to change the law to replace the epidemic situation as the legal basis for corona measures - with a reduced catalog of possible country measures.

A suspension of school lessons, curfews and closings of shops and restaurants should then no longer be possible.

"Why are you allowed to do everything possible in a region that is blazing hot (...), but the bars keep going, that can't be right," said Wüst.
