Stopping of wind turbines during the migration period or when a bird approaches, attempts at sound or visual scaring, adaptation of the size of the mast and the blades: several devices are being tested to reduce bird mortality by collision .
But their ability to avoid accidents in real conditions is not yet well assessed.
One of the objectives of the research project "
bird mortality on wind farms (Mape)
", launched by a CNRS laboratory in Montpellier, is to better identify the causes of bird and bat mortality and its consequences on species. , but also to improve the effectiveness of prevention systems.
Intervene upstream

"this development must be done with respect for biodiversity, otherwise social acceptance will not be there"
, underlined Allain Bougrain -Dubourg, the president of the League for the protection of birds (LPO)
