Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) described the corona measures agreed by the federal and state governments as very good and at the same time did not rule out stricter measures in the state. "The most important point is that we have to move faster with vaccination," said Woidke on Thursday in Potsdam. "That again poses major challenges for the entire system."

Potsdam - The recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission for a booster vaccination for everyone over the age of 18 is very important.

“Of course we will have to keep an eye on the situation.

We are constantly looking at the situation in our health care system, it is in the south of the country - one can say without exaggeration - it is already in parts dramatic today, ”said Woidke.

"In the end, this is about human life and we cannot rule out further measures at the moment."

At a vaccination summit, to which he invites on Friday, Woidke wants to talk to district administrators and mayors about "how we can significantly accelerate vaccination here in Brandenburg".

For the booster vaccination and the first vaccination, there should be further significantly expanded vaccination offers.

Woidke welcomed the extension of bridging aid III Plus for particularly stressed companies, as agreed by the federal and state governments, as well as the planned financial aid for hospitals and local public transport and a care bonus.

The head of government praised the federal and state governments for having found the discussion surprisingly constructive.

"We have one big goal together and that is to contain this pandemic and, above all, to ensure that our health system is not overloaded," said Woidke.

Woidke has so far been skeptical of the plans of his own party, the Greens and the FDP to let the epidemic situation of national scope expire and to create a new legal basis for corona measures.

Regarding the dispute, he said: "In the next few days and weeks, we will check whether the current instrument case (...) is sufficient, whether we have reached our limits." In December it will be checked whether it is enough.

"If it is not enough, both the federal government and the states will have to re-sharpen them."
