The idea had been germinating for several years in the mind of Laëtitia Pailhers, a young Loirétaine living in Beaugency.

After working in a factory and raising her children, this 36-year-old mother decided to change the course of her life… to become a sheep breeder.

His choice fell on a herd of Solognotes, a rustic and local species that can be seen when walking between Tavers and Beaugency.

“Why the sheep?

I wanted to resume a professional activity without having to return to the factory and the agricultural world tempted me.

I did internships with breeders in Loir-et-Cher, and spent three months in summer.

I really liked it.

My first animals arrived in June, and on September 2, I created my company, Laeti Moutons, ”smiles the young woman, who has invested 70,000 euros in her business.

Without land of her own, the breeder, always looking for space, rented a small plot of 2.5 ha from the municipality of Beaugency, near La Mauve, a small tributary of the Loire.

The town of Tavers has also made pasture to the wastewater treatment plant available to him, and the conservatory of natural spaces has opened up 23 hectares to him on the other side of the Loire, which the ewes will maintain.

Involve schools and the local population

But more than green grazing, it is the production of meat that interests the young breeder. His herd currently consists of 90 animals, and his goal is to have another 60 more. The first lambs should be born in the spring, which will allow him, in September, to market his first boxes of meat, for direct sale. It also fosters a host of projects such as working with schools, involving the local population in transhumance… “I would really like to become part of the dynamism of the municipality,” says Laëtitia Pailhers.

In the meantime, to ensure the daily routine, the young woman keeps her current job as a part-time waitress in a restaurant, which leaves her enough free time to take care of her sheep.

But she intends to make a living from her farm and is giving herself three years to achieve this.
