Austria announced today (Friday) that it is expanding the closure, which will also include those who have already been vaccinated against the corona virus.
The restrictions are expected to last at least ten days, with as of February all citizens will be required to be vaccinated.
The Chancellor, Alexander Schlenberg, said at a news conference where he announced the new restrictions that they would have a maximum duration of 20 days.
Austria has already passed a string of stringent restrictions along with Germany and Slovakia in the weeks leading up to Christmas, amid a growing debate over whether vaccines alone are enough to deal with the corona virus.
Only about 66% of Austria's population is fully vaccinated, one of the lowest rates in Western Europe.
At the same time, morbidity figures in Austria are among the highest on the continent, and the daily number of infections continues to set records.
