The election chaos in Berlin now also has a legal aftermath: Federal Returning Officer Georg Thiel appeals to the federal election results there after the mishaps on election day in the capital.
In certain constituencies there were electoral errors that could have been avoided, said a spokeswoman for the Federal Returning Officer in Wiesbaden.
The Federal Returning Officer therefore sees it as his task to raise objections.
The “Business Insider” portal had previously reported on it.
The objection should go to the Bundestag election review committee on Friday.
The committee must then check whether there were electoral errors and whether these were relevant to the mandate, i.e. had an impact on the distribution of seats in the Bundestag.
In the elections to the Bundestag, the House of Representatives and the district council assemblies on September 26, there were several mishaps in Berlin.
In some polling stations ballot papers ran out, in others the wrong ones were initially on display.
In addition, long queues formed in front of some voting locations, so that some voters were only able to cast their votes after 6 p.m.
According to "Business Insider" there were problems in the House of Representatives election in 200 of 2000 polling stations.
The portal relied on a "secret report" by the Berlin state election officer Petra Michaelis, who has since resigned.
According to the report, there were also problems casting votes in 94 polling stations during the federal election.
With the elections for the Bundestag, the House of Representatives, the district assemblies and the vote on the “Deutsche Wohnen & Co. expropriate” referendum, so many election events took place on one day on that Sunday as never before in the history of the capital.
There was also the Berlin Marathon, which resulted in numerous road closures.
