The White House announced that US President Joe Biden will temporarily transfer his powers to Vice President Harris, while he is undergoing medical work that requires anesthesia.
Reuters quoted White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki as saying in a statement that under the procedures set forth in the Constitution, Biden will transfer his powers to the vice president for a short period while he undergoes colonoscopy as part of the president's annual medical examination.
Psaki pointed out that this happened before with former US President George W. Bush, who also underwent a colonoscopy in 2002 and 2007.
Biden, 79, is considered the oldest president in American history.
