Munich - Green coffee capsules, climate-neutral mineral water, plastic-free protein bars: This year, the consumer organization Foodwatch * has nominated products that advertise climate and environmental friendliness for their negative Golden Windbag prize - but according to consumer advocates, they do not keep these promises.

Foodwatch vote: "The brazen advertising lie of the year"

From now on, consumers can choose the “most brazen advertising lie of the year” from five candidates on goldener-windpaket.de.

The vote will run until December 12th.

The nominees include the Volvic mineral water * from Danone (allegedly "climate-neutral certified", although the bottles mostly come from France by truck).

Candidate number two are the Mövenpick coffee capsules sold as "Green Caps" by the roastery JJ Darboven (according to advertising, they are compostable and biodegradable. Foodwatch criticizes: 95 percent of German waste processors cannot recycle any "compostable" plastic, instead it is burned).

Also on the “cream puff” list is a protein bar from fitness influencer Pamela Reif, who advertises plastic-free and biodegradable packaging.

However, the bar is packed in a plastic film, "which is neither composted nor recycled, but also ends up in the waste incinerator," says Foodwatch.

Other Greenwashing * candidates include the chicken breast fillet from Rewe brand Wilhelm Brandenburg (allegedly “climate neutral”, or the Wunderland fruit gums from Katjes (sugar content of 60 percent!). Foodwatch called for clear regulation of “sustainable” advertising promises The complete list and more information is available on the Internet at www.foodwatch.de
