The Christmas market in Wolfratshausen has been canceled - but you can still shop on the first of Advent: The city is planning a Sunday shopping.

Wolfratshausen - Christmas business is the high season of the year for dealers.

Especially at the Christmas market in the old town there is a lot of activity - and the shops on the upper and lower market are happy to welcome many customers.

Due to the corona, the Christmas market has also been canceled for this year (we reported).

However, dealers and the city are working on an alternative.

Buy Christmas presents on Sunday: Wolfratshauser dealers open despite market cancellation

In the most recent city council meeting, town hall chief Klaus Heilinglechner revealed that a Sunday shopping should take place on the first day of Advent. The date on November 28th was already firmly planned, but should actually be connected to the Christmas market in an atmospheric way. Nothing will come of it, "but we will align it in a reduced form," said Heilinglechner. To explain: A Sunday shopping may only take place in connection with a market or other event.

As Ernst Gröbmair, member of the board of directors of the Wolfratshausen advertising group, explains when our newspaper asked, a few stalls should open on Marienplatz and offer handicrafts or delicacies.

Huts are also to be set up on the Sebastiani-Steg for the Sunday shopping.

“We are currently planning which providers will sell there,” says Gröbmair, who speaks of a “handpicked” selection of dealers.

Even without the Christmas market: Small stalls should exude market flair - "a nice alternative"

He sees the plans as a “nice alternative” to the popular market.

And it is also an important date for retailers: “We don't know how the whole corona situation will develop, and we had to cancel two Sundays that were open for sale this year,” complains Gröbmair.

"The time to come is very important for our retailers."

The mayor also emphasized this at the city council meeting: “The past few months have been a very difficult time for business.

At the moment they are happy for every day they can be open - and especially during the Christmas season.

Unlike usual, this time the Marktstrasse will not be closed to traffic.

At the stalls - how many there will be has not yet been finalized - no alcohol may be served.
