The corona situation in Germany is getting worse.

Health Minister Jens Spahn and RKI boss Lothar Wieler therefore do not rule out a lockdown.

Berlin - The corona virus has Germany firmly under control.

"The situation is serious," said Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn in a press conference on Friday (November 19).

"We are in a national emergency," said Spahn.

The President of the Robert Koch Institute Lothar Wieler also shares the Minister of Health's view.

The oar must now be turned around, said Wieler.

Children and the elderly in particular should be given greater protection.

Spahn on the corona situation: lockdown for unvaccinated people?

“It's ten past twelve,” said Spahn.

Now a national effort is needed to counteract this.

"With vaccinations alone, with boosters, we will no longer achieve the breaking of the wave that we need in the short term." The planned steps with comprehensive access rules only for vaccinated and convalescent people (2G) would have to be consistently implemented and consistently monitored.

Spahn gives a deep look into future measures: It is about a "lockdown for unvaccinated people" and significant contact restrictions.

In Austria we are already one step further.

A complete lockdown will apply there from Monday (November 22nd).

In addition, our neighbors should be subject to compulsory vaccination.

As Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn further explains, he can now no longer rule out any measures.

It is important that the countries are given as many instruments as possible.

RKI boss Wieler: "We have to pull the emergency brake now"

Wieler considers the nationwide 2G rule resolved by the Prime Minister's Conference to be no longer sufficient in the current pandemic.

The 2G rule makes sense, but "in the current situation that is no longer enough," said RKI boss Wieler on Friday in Berlin.

He reiterated his call to cancel major events, close hotspots such as poorly ventilated clubs and bars and reduce private contacts.

The 2G rule means that only those who have been vaccinated and recovered are allowed access to events.

Wieler said that further measures were also necessary.

People should also "stay at home if possible" and stop meeting too many people.

"We have to pull the emergency brake now," said Wieler.

All of Germany is a single corona outbreak.

Spahn: Transfer of intensive care patients

In addition, Spahn referred in the press conference to the need to move intensive care patients to other clinics.

Here you get into the situation of having to relocate patients to other clinics not only within the five regions provided for this purpose in Germany, but also for the first time on a larger scale nationwide - and possibly also to neighboring countries.

There are votes on this every week between the federal and state governments.
