Corona situation in southern Germany dramatic: Federal government plans aid measure

Intensive care units are currently reaching their absolute limit.

An aid mission by the Air Force - this is the federal government's plan to relocate seriously ill corona patients from particularly affected areas in southern Germany. Fast transport capacities should be kept ready so that sick people can fly to regions with free capacities in the event of an overload of intensive care units. "There are still no official requests for assistance, but we are preparing for it," said a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense on Friday after the

first reported.

According to information from the German Press Agency, plans have been underway for a few days, which were initiated by the Federal Chancellery and in which the Berlin University Hospital Charité is also involved in addition to the military.

It is possible that, as in the previous year, an aircraft in the Air Force's white fleet will be converted with so-called patient transport facilities for the task.

The Air Force also has two special aircraft for the transport of intensive care patients - an A310 "MedEvac" in Cologne and an A400M "MedEvac" in Wunstorf, Lower Saxony.

These are currently still available for possible military tasks.

There are also military rescue helicopters.

Coronavirus in the south: Bavaria hardest hit

A look at the coronavirus map of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) * reveals how explosive the corona situation is in the south.

Much of Bavaria is colored pink or even purple.

The colors thus indicate districts with extremely high incidence values.

Germany's number one hotspot is currently the Rottal-Inn district with a value of 1423.6.

Areas in Baden-Württemberg are also colored pink.

According to the RKI, the total incidence in Bavaria on Friday was 625.3.

This corresponds to the nationwide maximum.

Baden-Württemberg has an incidence value of 414.0.

So it is not unusual that Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder announced drastic new corona rules on Friday.
