(CNN) -
The Cuban army is carrying out two days of military exercises throughout the island against the threat of an "enemy invasion," and this Saturday was declared the Day of National Defense.
The Cuban state press ACN has been broadcasting a video of the military exercises taking place throughout the island.
They started this Thursday.
The exercises were announced after opposition activists said they planned a protest this weekend.
Following the announcement of the exercises, the activists moved the unauthorized protests to Monday, November 15.
However, a heavy police presence and severe warnings from the Cuban government thwarted those plans.
According to state media, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and former Cuban leader Raúl Castro are following the military exercises as they take place.
