Anyone who tends to drink coffee in the morning reduces their chances of suffering from dementia and stroke?
A new study published in the journal PLOS Medicine examined the daily routine of 360,000 subjects for over ten years. At the end of the study it was found that those who drank between two and three cups of coffee or between three and five cups of tea had a lower chance of having a stroke and dementia compared to others. The risk for dementia is 28 percent lower and for stroke is 32 percent lower.
Those who drank between four and six cups of coffee and tea, regardless of distribution, had a similar effect. In addition, those who drank less than two cups of coffee or tea were in a better position compared to those who did not drink coffee at all, but not with the same effect.
Researchers at Tianjin University in China said that "the findings show that moderate drinking of coffee and tea - together or separately - was associated with a lower risk of stroke and dementia."
According to various studies, ten percent of the deaths in the world are caused by a stroke and in many cases the dementia comes after the stroke.
Keep in mind that as in other cases, this is not a study that teaches causality, but only a correlation so it is not clear whether the improvement in coffee drinkers was due to the coffee itself or whether the coffee indicates a particular lifestyle.
