After 17 years, the Rock Museum in the Olympic Tower will close on December 31st.

How to proceed after that is already clear.

Munich - The mirrored piano by Elton John, private pictures of the Beatles, an autographed guitar by Metallica and trousers that Freddie Mercury wore on stage.

All of this can be seen in the Rock Museum, as well as artistic posters, tickets and backstage passes.

A wonderful hodgepodge from a wild world.

For 17 years, the gem has delighted visitors to the Olympic Tower *.

“We are the highest rock museum in the world,” says Herbert “Herbi” Hauke.

And must add that the days of establishment are numbered.

It ends on December 31st.

Munich: Rock Museum in the Olympic Tower closes - lifelong dream ends

"Of course it tears my heart out," says Hauke, for whom the museum - as well as for his partner Arno Frank Eser - was a lifelong dream.

That's why the two music crazy people don't leave in resentment, but rather grateful that they were able to live their dream.

Nevertheless, Hauke was shocked by the news about the museum being closed.

"That was about six months ago."

The arrangements for this step, as it is called by Olympiapark GmbH, had been going on for a long time.

She is looking forward to the coming year, when the 1972 Summer Games will be 50 years old.

Then the Olympic Park will celebrate its anniversary.

According to spokesman Tobias Kohler, the 80 square meters of museum space will then be used for presentations.

“After that, the tower will be closed for two years.” During this time, the landmark will be given a general overhaul in terms of technology and fire protection.

For Hauke this means: everything will be packed up at the beginning of January.

Rock museum owner plans Queen show

As special as the exhibits are at a height of almost 200 meters: “They only make up one percent of my collection,” reveals the 66-year-old, who has been collecting rock relics since his youth and owns 250,000 exhibits. The real value of his treasures can be guessed at the major exhibitions that the Munich resident staged again and again. He is currently planning a Queen show in the Pasinger factory, which starts in March. The year 2024 is about Michael Jackson *.

Hauke also founded the “Munich - City of Music” platform.

He is looking forward to planning bigger in the future.

And will always fondly think back to his small museum at lofty heights.

To the millions of visitors, to its guided tours for tens of thousands of music fans - and to the 250 concerts that shook the Olympic Tower.

It was the perfect place to make dreams come true.
