The FDA (US Drug Administration) this evening (Friday) approved giving a third dose of the coronary vaccines of Pfizer and Moderna to 18-year-olds and older.
If the U.S. Centers for Disease Control approves the Drug Administration's recommendation, as it is expected to do, tens of millions of Americans will be eligible for the additional vaccine dose.
Last week Pfizer announced that it had applied to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for an emergency permit to provide corona vaccine booster doses to all 18-year-olds and older.
The company said that Phase 3 trials among more than 10,000 people found that giving the booster provides 95% efficacy against symptomatic infection in the corona.
In the past, the director has approved giving the third vaccine to at-risk populations, but the U.S. administration has called on the organization to expand the vaccination campaign, arguing that health experts claim there is no need to give the third dose to young people in vain.
