First Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, Vladimir Jabarov, stressed that if the US Congress adopts a resolution not recognizing the upcoming Russian elections in 2024, this will lead to the collapse of Russian-American relations.
"I am convinced that the proposed document will not pass, but if the resolution is adopted, this will lead to the severance of relations between Russia and the United States," Zbarov was quoted by Sputnik news agency as saying, describing it as "a cynical document devoid of any logic."
Congressmen Steve Cohen and Joe Wilson presented to the US House of Representatives a document that included a proposal not to recognize Russian President Vladimir Putin as Russia's president if he decides to run for a new term in 2024.
Moscow earlier described the discussion by US politicians of Putin's possible participation in the upcoming presidential elections as interference in the country's internal affairs.
