The nomination period for the general election of the Legislative Council ended last week. A total of 154 people signed up for the election and competed for 90 seats.
One month before the polling day, the Candidate Qualification Review Committee confirmed the eligibility of 153 of them today (19th). The only person who was found to be inconsistent with the eligibility was Liu Zijin from the functional constituency medical and health sector and the Central Committee of the Nursing Association. There are 153 people who have passed the review this time. Among them, 35 are candidates for geographical constituencies, 67 are for functional constituencies, and 51 are for electoral committees, competing for 20, 30 and 40 seats respectively.
As for the functional constituency of the medical and health sector, Liu Zijin, a candidate who applied for the election, was found to be ineligible because he was employed by a government department.
According to Article 39 of the Legislative Council Ordinance, any person who is a prescribed public official shall be disqualified from being nominated as a candidate and elected as a member of the council in an election.
