After the cancellation of the Christmas market on Marienplatz, other markets are canceled - others should take place despite stricter rules.

We asked around at stand operators and organizers.

I'm about to cry ”, says Josef Rohrer (56) from Standl Beerenalm when he talks about the city's decision. The sudden cancellation of the municipal Christmas markets on Marienplatz hit him and his wife with full force. The assembly and dismantling of the massive wooden house in the pedestrian zone and the goods - 3000 liters of mulled wine - cost them around 30,000 euros. They are now left with the costs. Rohrer: "If a restaurant offers mulled wine to go, that's okay - but we're not allowed to do that outdoors here."

Heidemarie Steindl (66) feels the same way.

Your Christmas tree ball stand is in the middle of Marienplatz.

The Standl belongs to the city.

For two days she had admitted it, lovingly decorated - but now she had to clear everything out again.

“I worked a night shift,” said Steindl yesterday at noon and laughs.

She takes it with humor - gallows humor.

"We cried enough last year."

At least Beate Pelzer still has the roasted almond stand in the pedestrian zone, which is not part of the Christmas market.

Nevertheless: Your mulled wine stand on Marienplatz would have been the main business of the year.

“I am very sad,” she says.

But in view of the Corona situation, she can understand the city's decision.

City wants to support stand operators

There is at least one small consolation: "The city will support the Standl operators financially, that is the declared will of all the major parliamentary groups," assures Mayor Katrin Habenschaden (Greens).

Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) had also announced that he would compensate the feeders.

CSU boss Manuel Pretzl: "Part of this solution could be that the state capital buys goods that have already been procured and distributes them to social institutions or those in need."

The ice magic at Stachus is also canceled this year.

"Given the current situation, we can no longer take responsibility for that," explains restaurateur Verena Able.

The winter magic at Viktualienmarkt has also been canceled.

"I feel sorry for the stand operators - and I'm worried about my own stand," says Gabi Klein (62), who had to close her forest and Oktoberfest stand completely last winter.

Many stand operators consider a lockdown to be possible.

The Christmas market in the Werksviertel was also canceled.

Some other Christmas markets still take place

Many other Christmas markets are supposed to take place despite stricter rules. “We have set up and are ready to go”, says Robert Maier-Kares from the queer Christmas market Pink Christmas (Glockenbachviertel), which is supposed to start on Monday. There is a test station at the market. Because the 2G-plus rule applies to private Christmas markets. This means that only vaccinated or convalescent people who can show a negative corona rapid test have access. Maier-Kares hopes that the number of visitors will not be further reduced. Because: The costs are already high.

"For us it is important how many people are allowed on the market," says Andreas Micksch, who is responsible for the Haidhauser Christmas market. The market area at Weißenburger Platz had to be reduced in order to be able to implement 2G. The organizers hope that the market can start on November 23rd. “But we have to wait and see whether there are any further restrictions.” Even at the Christmas village in the Kaiserhof of the Residenz, it is not certain whether it will start this Friday. The assembly is finished, but: "We are still waiting to see what further instructions there are," says Eduard Rosai. Those responsible for the Tollwood Festival would like to wait for today's federal-state conference before deciding whether to open on November 24th.

Daniel Hahn, on the other hand, plans to pull through the fairy tale bazaar in the Olympiapark, the Starfleet on the Alte Utting and the Christmas market at the train guard Thiel.

“A visit is very safe, we are hopeful,” he emphasizes.

The Moosacher Hüttenzauber, the Christmas market on Luise-Kiesselbach-Platz and the medieval market on Wittelsbacherplatz are also to take place.
