The former post office at the confluence of the Allinger and Salzstrasse is being demolished.
Work started these days.
Germering - A new building of a similar size and forum will be built on the same spot.
The owner and long-time CSU city councilor Paul Wunderl had therefore made a preliminary building request five years ago, which had been approved.
The Posthalterhaus is one of the few historical buildings in the city.
It was first mentioned in 1577 as a “tavern”, as city archivist Marcus Guckenbiehl has documented.
Even then, it was a two-story stone building with two cellars and two stables for 50 horses each.

However, what was later to become the “Zur Post” inn is not a listed building - it has been rebuilt too often, and historical buildings are as good as nonexistent.
During an on-site visit five years ago, nothing of significance could be discovered.
City archivist Guckenbiehl is still following some of the demolition work on the spot.
Reason: Old plans show that there is another one under the only previously accessible cellar vault.
If this is the case, Guckenbiehl will investigate this as a ground monument.
In the documentation on the Posthalterhaus, which Guckenbiehl submitted five years ago, it can be read that the Unterpfaffenhofen post office was built in 1810.
It existed until 1870 - in that year the "Post bus connection Munich-Landsberg" was discontinued on this route.

The grandfather and an uncle of the famous painter Carl Spitzweg were post office owners in Unterpfaffenhofen.
The “Zur Post” inn existed until 1960. The last innkeepers were Josef and Josefa Ruhdorfer.
Construction plans of the old post office are only available to a limited extent.
The oldest dates from 1857 - it was created because of an extension planned at the time.
