The Kremlin stressed that only Russian citizens have the right to decide who is the president of their country, stressing that the proposal of members of the US Congress not to recognize President Vladimir Putin as Russia's president after May 2024 is a blatant interference in Russia's internal affairs.
Commenting on this proposal, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters today: "It is an excellent testimony and evidence not only for the Russian Federation but for all countries that the United States of America is officially interfering in the internal affairs of other countries."
"Every time it seems to us that nothing more ridiculous, more aggressive, unfriendly and unconstructive can come from the other side of the ocean, and every time we make a mistake, it is unfortunately," Peskov added.
Peskov stressed that Russia considers such proposals from members of Congress "failed" and a blatant interference in its affairs and does not comply with the standards of international relations, stressing that only Russian citizens can determine when and who should be their country's president.
Congressmen Steve Cohen and Joe Wilson had submitted to the US House of Representatives a motion not to recognize Russian President Vladimir Putin as president in the next round of presidential elections in Russia.
