The St. Wolfgang horticultural association is making the most of the corona situation.

The apple queen remains in office.

St. Wolfgang

- "It was better than last year, but Corona again restricted some of the activities of the St. Wolfgang horticultural association this year," said Chairman Rudi Brand, looking back.

So it won't end with the cozy end of the gardening year at the Armstorfer Gasthaus Hagl: The event on November 30th has been canceled.

Overall, due to the pandemic situation and the lower fruit harvest due to the weather, one should be satisfied with the Gartler year, says Brand.

The number of members is pleasingly constant at a little over 700. The management of the second largest St. Wolfgang association is proud of the large youth group with over 80 young gardeners.

The youth leader Andrea Hammer is largely responsible for the success, who inspires the youth for gardening with her "great commitment".

In 2020 almost all activities had to be canceled.

This year it was easier for the children and young people because at least in summer and autumn a lot was possible again.

On the other hand, the traditional Gartlertag had to be canceled again, which was attended by between 2000 and 3000 visitors from all over the region, regrets Brand.

A small fruit and garden market was held as a replacement.

The horticultural association is well known for its powerful fruit press and the automatic juice filler with heater.

At the end of October, the season ended after 19 days of pressing in two shifts, reports Brand.

Every day between 40 and 50 people came from the neighboring districts.

You get praised again and again because the organization “is going so well and there are almost no waiting times”.

Between 2500 and 5000 liters of apple juice were pressed from the fruit every day.

The quantities were a little less this year because many trees did not produce that much fruit.

For the last action in the course of the year, several club members met in the club house. There, around 420 kilograms of cabbage were “cut into” and filled into 20 small clay barrels. “The people are ready to go”, says Brand, “because the Krautfassl are a big hit”. Many have been pre-ordered, some for club members, the rest are sold in the local regional market. And there will be another sale at the clubhouse on Saturday, November 27th. The apple juice from 2020 made from untreated fruit from the club's orchard is sold. When pasteurized, the juice in the five and ten liter boxes has lost none of its quality.

The Gartler year was again sad for apple queen Raphaela I. (Müller).

The Armstorferin came into office in October 2019 - and then Corona came and no more missions.

Actually, her term of office would now have been over, says Brand, but her reign was extended until 2023.
