Swiss Foreign Minister Ignacio Cassis announced that his country refuses to take orders from the European Union, stressing that no negotiations will take place between the two sides unless a joint agenda is set between the Commission and Berne.
"No orders are given or accepted between the European Union and Switzerland. The Federal Council knows the wishes of the European Union, which are not new," Cassis said in an interview with the Tamedia Media Group newspapers.
Regarding negotiations on the legal framework for Switzerland’s participation in the single market of the European Union, its main economic partner, and the establishment of a mechanism for settling disputes between them, Cassis indicated that the Federal Council has no intention of resuming negotiations after the collapse of the agreement in May, stressing that any political dialogue must be objective and essential.
