It has to be done quickly: Corona booster vaccinations are particularly important for seniors in order to be prepared for winter.

That is why people in nursing homes have been vaccinating diligently for weeks.

Munich - Despite all Corona * worries: The mood is good in the Maria-Stadler-Haus retirement home in Haar: "It's a very cheerful atmosphere," says resident Ingeborg Glupp.

This is also due to the booster vaccinations.

“As far as I know, everyone has been boosted,” says the 89-year-old.

“You can tell the relief.” She herself received the third injection in September.

“It was a little prick, nothing else,” she says.

Josef Stöcher, who has lived in the Münchenstift on Rümannstrasse for 19 years, did not hesitate to get the booster vaccination either.

“That way you are on the safe side,” says the 96-year-old.

“It's comforting to be protected.” A vaccination team came into the house, he had no reactions after the vaccination.

“It wasn't a problem,” he reports.

Many retirement home residents have already been vaccinated three times

In the facilities of Münchenstift, the quota of booster vaccinations is 50 percent of the residents.

"The vaccination continues in the houses", emphasizes spokesman Christian Liesenhoff.

It is the same in the Caritas homes.

It is difficult to give concrete figures, says Doris Schneider, manager of the Caritas nursing homes in Munich * and Upper Bavaria.

She estimates that more than 70 percent of seniors are triple vaccinated.

“There is a lot of interest among the residents, albeit a bit declining compared to the first vaccinations,” she reports.

However, practical experience confirms: "The longer it has been since the second vaccination, the greater the risk of becoming infected and seriously ill or dying," she explains.

However, especially in very old people with many previous illnesses and a weakened immune system, it is difficult to assess the ultimate cause of death.

Corona in Munich: With booster vaccinations, speed counts

One thing is certain: speed counts with booster vaccinations.

"We'd rather be early," says Hans Kopp, managing director of the Munich AWO district association.

Overall, around half of the seniors in the AWO homes have been vaccinated three times.

Almost all of the residents who were vaccinated or recovered six months ago received the third prick.

In the Munich BRK houses, too, all seniors who have the right distance are boosted.

Anyone who was later with the first vaccinations will continue to receive the booster syringe from doctors who come to the house.

The good news: "We do not currently have Corona * in either of our two houses," says Andrea Frauscher, spokeswoman for the BRK district association in Munich.

The situation can be controlled

No major outbreaks in the homes

In the Münchenstift homes, too, “the situation can definitely be controlled”, as Christian Liesenhoff reports: “There are currently only a few infected people and no major outbreaks.” The St. Josef House experienced an outbreak at the beginning of the month. In the homes of the Munich AWO * there have been around 40 positive cases and one death in 1200 residents since September. There are isolated outbreaks, "but with a more noticeable course," says Hans Kopp. Hospital admissions are rare.

Senior citizen Ingeborg Glupp also remains optimistic: "The vaccination was a big boost for everyone," she says.

She and the other residents are also pleased that this means that safe meetings in the cafeteria are still possible.

And the anticipation for Christmas is also great: the Advent decorations are hanging, the large Christmas tree is decorated - this creates the right atmosphere right now.
