The VHS Geretsried could lose funding and the city would run into a higher deficit.
The solution could be a network with the Vhs Wolfratshausen and Bad Tölz.
Geretsried - In order to be more efficient, smaller adult education centers (Vhs) come together. In the district of Miesbach, seven institutions work together under the umbrella of Vhs Oberland. There is also an association in Weilheim-Schongau, and Herrsching would also like to join forces with Starnberg. The fact that the city of Geretsried is inclined to pool the strengths of its Vhs with those in Wolfratshausen and Bad Tölz became known in the council chambers at the meeting of the committee for youth, senior citizens, social affairs, culture and sport on Monday evening.
“The forms of cooperation are to be sought”, emphasized Mayor Michael Müller, that this question is still at the beginning.
So far, there has only been a cautious foresight, explained Thomas Schmid, who is responsible for controlling in the town hall.
“Both cities are interested in working together.” In contrast to Geretsried, where the Vhs is run communally, there are clubs in Bad Tölz and Wolfratshausen.
But that “doesn't have to be the problem.
There are ways, ”says Schmid.
The working group for intermunicipal cooperation should show what these are.
She is part of the city council working group for budget consolidation, which Schmid heads.
"A certain kind of compulsion arose"
Behind the advance lies a growing deficit that the city is developing every year as a result of the operation of the Vhs.
"There was a certain kind of compulsion for smaller adult education centers to join forces," reported Vhs director Beate Ruda.
That has to do with the hurdles that exist in order to get funding.
When the Geretsrieder Vhs joined the Bavarian Adult Education Association (BVV) eleven years ago, 10,000 participant double lessons were necessary, Ruda explained.
Now there are 30,000. Geretsried was also far away from that in 2019, the “very best” year of the Vhs so far, with 20,050.
The other prerequisites, at least 140 courses and 2,400 participants per year, “we can do it”, says Ruda.
2019 was the best year so far - then came Corona
In 2019, the Vhs even cracked the 3000 participant mark. “We have been working towards this for a long time,” reported the director. In general, there have been significant increases in all areas in recent years. However, due to Corona there was a "total break-in". Some lecturers would have used the opportunity to retire. Others had to look for a permanent job due to a lack of income. "We are looking for new lecturers via an advertisement," reported Ruda. The regular customers have remained loyal to the Vhs for a long time, but many can no longer come because they do not meet the 2G rule. The positive thing about the corona pandemic, however, is that the Vhs had time for quality management and can now call itself an “institute with outstanding achievements”. They have also made progress in terms of digitization.
Dr.
Elmar Immertreu (Geretsrieder List) denied whether the Vhs is a relatively large one compared to the neighboring ones.
Hans Ketelhut (CSU) spoke out in favor of doing everything possible to ensure that the Vhs remains in place: "I consider it a very, very important institution in Geretsried."
