The Palestinian Prisoners Club confirmed that the Israeli occupation is holding 160 children in its prisons, in flagrant violation of international law and international conventions, foremost of which are the conventions against torture and the rights of the child.
Wafa Agency quoted the club as saying in a statement today on the occasion of the International Children’s Day, which falls on November 20 of each year, that the occupation authorities have arrested about 19,000 Palestinian children since the year 2000, pointing out that 160 children are still languishing in the occupation’s prisons and subjected to the worst forms of psychological and physical torture. .
The club drew attention to the occupation’s arbitrary practices against detained children, such as beating them in front of their families, shooting them before and during the arrest process, taking them handcuffed and feet bound and blindfolded, keeping them without food or drink for long hours, forcing them to sign papers without knowing their content, threatening and intimidating them, as well as depriving the majority of them from visits their families and their right to education and medical treatment.
The club pointed out that the rate of detention by the occupation of Jerusalemite children is the highest compared to the rest of the West Bank, where the clear targeting of Jerusalem children appears by arresting dozens of them on an almost daily basis, releasing them and re-arresting them again, in addition to the policy of home confinement and deportation from the Holy City and imposing exorbitant fines on their families, with the aim of Restricting the Palestinians in Jerusalem and displacing them to Judaize it.
