In the survey, 40 percent of the doctors indicated that they could not continue working for four weeks under the current conditions. “The doctors and nurses in the intensive care units are worn out,” he says. There is great concern that even more will fail. Because since the beginning of the year 4,000 intensive care beds have been eliminated nationwide - because the nursing staff for them are lacking.
This also has to do with the fact that the care key was changed from 1 to 2.5 to 1 to 2, explains a spokesman for the hospital society.
“That would be good for the patients if there were enough staff,” he says.
In fact, it meant that 20 percent of the beds could no longer be occupied.
Many intensive care workers were absent due to mental and physical overload or had asked to be transferred to normal wards.
And the remaining nurses and doctors would increasingly reach their limits, emphasizes Botzlar.
The level of frustration is very high - especially because mostly unvaccinated people end up in the intensive care units.

The Augsburg neurosurgeon Ina Konietzko fears that there will be more and more situations in the future, as she recently experienced during her night shift.
She got a call from a hospital in Biberbach.
"The colleagues there had been looking for an intensive care bed in another hospital for a woman with cerebral hemorrhage for an hour," she reports.
Vain.
Konietzko couldn't offer a bed either.
She doesn't know what has become of the woman.
