After the USA, Great Britain is now considering diplomatically boycotting the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

This reported the "Times".

The background is allegations of human rights violations in the People's Republic.

The government is currently debating whether only the ambassador to China and not British ministers should travel to China for the games in February.

According to the report, five Conservative politicians have written to Prime Minister Johnson asking him to stop any diplomatic representation of the UK at the Winter Olympics in February.

The boycott is supported by Foreign Minister Liz Truss.

US President Joe Biden had already confirmed on Thursday that his government is also considering a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Games in Beijing.

When asked by a journalist, US President Joe Biden said this was "something we are considering."

It was not more specific.

The Winter Olympics will take place in China from February 4th to 20th, 2022.

The authoritarian ruled country is accused of human rights violations, especially against minorities like the Muslim Uyghurs.

Human rights groups cite the Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong autonomous regions as examples of Chinese reprisals.

Again and again, boycott calls for the winter games there are loud.
