Li Jiachao: The new system of candidates fighting for the platform is no longer a "poor quality" ︱ Legislative Council Election

Bauhinia Magazine and Tianda Research Institute held the 6th One Country, Two Systems and Basic Law Seminar today (20th).

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Li Jiachao, who is also the chairman of the Candidate Qualification Review Committee, said in his speech that there are many new faces participating in this election. Some functional constituencies that have been less competitive in the past will have competition this year. The ability to truly compete in the political platform is not the past "inferior quality vs. scolding", which reflects balanced participation.

Li Jiachao pointed out that a total of 153 candidates passed the qualification review in this election, which represents a different political spectrum. It shows that this election is not "uniform" and that there are political purposes to discredit and self-defeating.

He also pointed out that Hong Kong has experienced major challenges in the past, including legislation against Article 23 of the Basic Law in 2003, and the "black storm" incident the previous year, which intended to undermine Hong Kong's administrative leadership and the relationship between Hong Kong and the Central Government.

Li Jiachao pointed out that anti-China chaos in Hong Kong and foreign agents entered the Legislative Council through loopholes in the election and used inferior means to "solicit speculation", causing chaos in the Legislative Council.

After the implementation of the "Port National Security Law" and the improvement of the election system, Hong Kong returned to calm. The central government launched a series of measures to lay the foundation for promoting the stability of one country, two banks and helping Hong Kong gradually overcome its difficulties.
