Another confrontation in the government: Knesset member and Reform Rabbi Gilad Karib (Labor) this evening (Saturday) attacked Minister of Religious Affairs Matan Kahana (right) following his opposition to the Western Wall outline, and threatened to delay the reforms the minister plans if Kahana is not "attentive to the positions of his coalition partners."
Karib's remarks came after Minister Kahana said in an interview with "Here 11" that he opposes giving the Reform and Orthodox currents a foothold in the Western Wall as part of the outline of the Western Wall.
"The vast majority of the Jews in the Land of Israel are Orthodox Jews. I do not think that other currents should be allowed to run the Western Wall," the minister said in an interview, adding, "Agreements can be reached without giving the minority marginal control over the Western Wall."
Karib said in response: "Minister Matan Kahana forgets that most Jews in Israel are not Orthodox, but secular and traditional, and the vast majority support the Western Wall outline and other compromises on matters of religion and state. To the spirit of the government and its guidelines.
"If Minister Kahana is interested in advancing his reforms in matters of religion and state, he should also be more attentive to the positions of the other coalition partners on these issues.
