- The Weilheim-Schongau district should be well represented at the Christmas market in Munich this year. After all, the Christmas tree comes from the district. This goes hand in hand with the right to operate market stalls in the state capital. For example, an information stand of the Pfaffenwinkel tourism association was to advertise the district and its 34 municipalities in the grand courtyard of Munich's town hall.
A mulled wine stand was also planned.
According to the district office, this should be run by a different community every day and sell mulled wine, punch and schnapps as well as regional dishes.
"Everything was prepared and organized down to the smallest detail," says the district office.
“From the decoration to food, drinks, including the manning of the stand with voluntary helpers.” For example, in the most recent meeting, all the local councils from Schwabbruck agreed to serve at the stand for a day.
There were similar decisions in other churches.
The renewed cancellation is "sad for the whole district"
Small interventions by the Obersöcheringen men's choir, the Schwabbruck brass and the Peiting Knappschaftskapelle at the Munich Christmas market were planned.
After the cancellation of the Christkindlmarkt, none of this will come of course.
“It's sad for the whole district,” says Peiting's Mayor Peter Ostenrieder, whose congregation is putting up the Christmas tree.
But: "The decision to cancel the Christmas market is absolutely correct".
The corona situation is dramatic.
The numbers would be far above anything that has previously had to be dealt with.

At the handover on Monday, November 22nd, at 5 p.m., after the bell of the Church of St. Peter and Paul has rung, the politicians will give a short speech, according to Erika Breu.

The market was closed last year when the Christmas tree came from Steingaden.
