Because the Christmas tree for the Munich Christmas market comes from Peiting this year, the district actually had two stands there.

After the market was canceled, there are now talks about an alternative date.

After all, the official handover of the trees will still take place on Monday.

District

- The Weilheim-Schongau district should be well represented at the Christmas market in Munich this year. After all, the Christmas tree comes from the district. This goes hand in hand with the right to operate market stalls in the state capital. For example, an information stand of the Pfaffenwinkel tourism association was to advertise the district and its 34 municipalities in the grand courtyard of Munich's town hall.

A mulled wine stand was also planned.

According to the district office, this should be run by a different community every day and sell mulled wine, punch and schnapps as well as regional dishes.

"Everything was prepared and organized down to the smallest detail," says the district office.

“From the decoration to food, drinks, including the manning of the stand with voluntary helpers.” For example, in the most recent meeting, all the local councils from Schwabbruck agreed to serve at the stand for a day.

There were similar decisions in other churches.

The renewed cancellation is "sad for the whole district"

Small interventions by the Obersöcheringen men's choir, the Schwabbruck brass and the Peiting Knappschaftskapelle at the Munich Christmas market were planned.

After the cancellation of the Christkindlmarkt, none of this will come of course.

“It's sad for the whole district,” says Peiting's Mayor Peter Ostenrieder, whose congregation is putting up the Christmas tree.

But: "The decision to cancel the Christmas market is absolutely correct".

The corona situation is dramatic.

The numbers would be far above anything that has previously had to be dealt with.

In this context he could only call again to get vaccinated and to take personal responsibility.

Even without a market it should be celebratory: At the "Christmas tree handover to the Munich population"

After all: “The mulled wine to be sold was ordered and made available on commission.

This means that we do not suffer any financial damage, ”explains Erika Breu, press spokeswoman for the district office, when asked by the local newspaper.

And in a very slimmed-down form there will at least be the "handover of the Christmas tree to the Munich population".

The lights of the Christmas tree are switched on and the Christmas season is heralded.

Even without the market, it should be celebratory, explains Ostenrieder, who will probably take on the task with District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß and Karin Habenschaden, second mayor of the city of Munich.

At the handover on Monday, November 22nd, at 5 p.m., after the bell of the Church of St. Peter and Paul has rung, the politicians will give a short speech, according to Erika Breu.

They want to talk about an alternative date in the coming year

Otherwise only "a manageable number of participants will be there," says Ostenrieder. The Peiting Knappschaft and Trachtenkapelle will provide a festive setting for the handover. They will play a few Christmas songs under the Christmas tree. “We want to present Peiting. But it will not be a huge frenzy. All corona rules are adhered to ".

Now the district was unlucky again with the Christmas market in Munich.

The market was closed last year when the Christmas tree came from Steingaden.

Will the district be allowed to be represented at the Munich Christkindlmarkt as an exception next year?

"With regard to an alternative date, talks are expected to be held with the protocol office of the state capital of Munich and with Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter in the coming year," says the district office.
