More about the "Munich Taler" in gold or silver

To honor the sights of the Isar metropolis, the “Munich Taler” appears in fine silver and fine gold.

They are issued by the Euromint European Coin Company,

which produced the coins exclusively for the Münchener Merkur tz media group.

The edition is limited to 100 copies in gold and 1,000 copies in silver.

The five most beautiful Munich sights can be found on both variants:

  • City Hall Munich:

One of the most important squares in Munich is Marienplatz, which is dominated by the New City Hall.

The magnificent Gothic building presents almost the entire line of the Wittelsbach rulers as stone witnesses to the past.

On the 85 meter high tower, the Münchner Kindl crowns the famous town hall.

In addition, the fifth largest carillon in Europe is located in the tower, which changes the melodies every month.

  • Bavaria Munich:

The most imposing representation of the patroness of Bavaria stands above the famous Theresienwiese.

The picture is framed by the hall of fame, which stands behind the bronze statue.

The statue was built on behalf of King Ludwig I between 1843 and 1850. The statue was presented to the public in time for the Oktoberfest in 1850.

  • Munich Residence:

    The largest inner city

    palace in

Germany was used by the dukes, electors and kings from 1508 to 1918 as the residence and

    seat of

government. Originally the Munich Residence was a castle that was integrated into the city fortifications. Over the years and the various rulers, the residence was extended and expanded into the city. Courtyards and gardens were created, which still inspire visitors today.

  • Frauenkirche Munich:

One of the landmarks of the Bavarian metropolis can be seen from afar and outshines all other buildings. The Munich Frauenkirche with its two striking towers has been the cathedral church of Munich and Freising since 1821. The striking towers were not completed until a few years later, as the hoodless towers were used in between to set up cannons to ensure the defense of Munich. Around 1525 the distinctive "Welschen Hauben" were put on and the towers were thus completed.

  • Nymphenburg Palace:

Nymphenburg Palace is the birthplace of the most famous Bavarian king.

In 1845 King Ludwig II was born in the summer residence of the Wittelsbach family.

The later fairy tale king shaped Bavaria with his castles like no other.

The span of Nymphenburg Palace (north-south axis) even exceeds the famous Versailles Palace of King Louis XIV and was included in the Red List of endangered architectural monuments by the Association of German Art Historians in 2021.

What all Munich thalers have in common is the reverse in this special series: the outline of Munich and a picture of Patrona Bavariae characterize the lapel.
