Is the big organic rubbish bin coming after all?

In any case, an expert recommends that the district introduce the previously controversial container.

The organic sacks could thus be a thing of the past.

The works committee of the waste management company (AWB) is now examining how the bin can be introduced.

Fürstenfeldbruck - So far, the committee had rejected the large organic waste bin and relied on organic bags.

The criticism that these often tear or are looted by animals on the street was responded to with the so-called organic bin in which the sacks are placed.

The calls, especially from the Greens for the big bin, never died away.

The report by the Witzenhausen Institute for Waste, Environment and Energy is now clear.

In comparison, the sack is losing out almost everywhere.

The sack only has more or less great advantages when it comes to space requirements and the dangers that garden waste ends up in organic waste and that maggots or flies infestation occur in the summer heat.

Emptying every 14 days?

According to the institute, a plus point is that the organic waste bin could be emptied every 14 days, which saves costs.

However, Maximilian Gigl (CSU) questioned this because of the threat of odor development: "One should examine a weekly emptying." Ingrid Jaschke (Greens) referred to another possibility: "In Austria there are collection vehicles that flush the bin at the same time as emptying."

According to the Witzenhausen Institute, the costs for the organic sack and organic waste bin are not very high.

With the desired increase in separately collected organic waste, the recycling costs for the organic sack rise from around 2.5 to around three million euros.

The organic waste bin would cost just as much - but only if huge amounts of garden waste did not end up in the bin.

Detailed examination

In order to avoid this, according to the report, the bin should not be too big.

It is proposed that the bio bin should have about half as much volume as the residual waste bin.

That means, for example: Anyone who has an 80 or 90 liter household garbage can gets a 40 liter container for the organic waste.

The costs and the effects on the fees are now to be examined again in more detail in a detailed examination.

A possible time frame, the necessary lead times and the contracts to be concluded for the introduction of a large organic waste bin are also examined.
