District - "The winter can come", announced the state building authority Rosenheim.

The four road maintenance depots are well prepared - and have already been deployed for the first time.

54 vehicles are available, 100 employees work in shifts to ensure safety on the state and federal highways in the districts of Rosenheim, Miesbach, Ebersberg and Mühldorf.

The Hausham road maintenance authority is responsible in the Miesbach district.

The employees don't just move out when it snows, but also on icy roads.

The operation starts at night, explains Axel Reinicke, who is responsible for road maintenance at the Rosenheim State Building Authority.

“In shift work, we observe the road condition and weather forecasts to find out where it could be slippery.” The operations management team has a dense network of road weather stations and ice warning systems at their disposal, which provide information about the road temperature and humidity.

Before the morning rush hour, at around 4 a.m., the vehicles set out to grit in order to prevent the slippery road from occurring in the first place. Instead of wet salt, a salt-water solution is used, the so-called brine. Reinicke: "Brine has a significantly longer dwell time on a dry road surface than wet salt." The method is thus effective, more economical and more environmentally friendly.

The road construction authority's winter service is on duty around the clock.

It is particularly important that federal and state roads remain passable.

It takes two to three hours for a vehicle to complete its route, including reloading with salt and refueling.

Sufficient grit is provided.

“Even in the event of a long winter, there will be enough supplies in the litter halls,” says Reinicke.

In an emergency, the road maintenance depots could access regional halls.

Stefan Leitner, Head of Road Construction at the State Building Authority in Rosenheim, appeals to drivers: "Drive carefully, be considerate of the slow-moving winter service vehicles and keep your distance so that clearing vehicles can maneuver if necessary."
